The first week was really a time I thought given to students of new batch to understand about SPJIMR beyond the research each one of us would have made (whatever minimum !!!) before interview or even before choosing SPJIMR as one of our desired b-school destination. It was, in a way, quiet an eventful week, as our inaugural week coincided with SPJIMR Academic Conclave 2013. The rest of the time was spent mostly on networking among the batch students, understanding their background and career goals each one have set for themselves after the course.
The inauguration session, rather in a typical academic manner from senior leaders of our academia extended warm welcome to each students. A brief about the program, calendar for the year, pedagogue methodology provided an idea of what was in store for us for rest of the years. The research assistants gave us the rule books and guidelines of dos and don't s(of which I already became a casualty). Of the entire speech from the senior leaders and academicians, the standout thing for me was emphasis by each on helping to groom individuals on becoming a leader who is self-conscious, who understands moral values and one who takes decisions that has an impact to society in a positive manner. This in fact is reflected in SPJIMR's methodology which is based on teaching principles of imparting knowledge(knowing), skill(doing) and attitude(being). The course curriculum is designed to retrofit it into this model.
I felt many, including me, were taken by complete surprise on lecture from yoga guru and initial introduction by Dean on importance of translating individual's intelligence quotient(IQ) & emotional quotient(EQ) into spiritual quotient(SQ). And one would imagine why a b-school for enlightenment on inner conscious which one could have acquired through lectures from spiritual leaders. But this pretty much fits within the course of overall methodology of enlightening individuals of self and being. Students also have to undertake yoga-exercise to inculcate the practice and highlight the importance of fit and stress free human body and mind, without which decision making is just not possible.
The conclaves on sustainability, inclusive growth through diversity, marketing presentations and award and managing risks & sustaining high performance in supply chain were quiet insightful.
